When you think of a kitten, what comes to your mind?
“Kittens are furry,” I can almost hear you say. Or “kittens are playful,” or “kittens are fun.”
If you said any of them, you would be right. Each of these words can describe a kitten.
Of course, we have many other words to describe things as well. For example, we might talk about sparkling water, scorching sun, fluffy clouds, and clear blue sky. There are plenty of ways to speak about people, too. We might call them grumpy, happy, kind, cruel, fearful, courageous, or wise.
Sometimes, when we really want to tell about something or somebody, one word will shine above all the rest. In fact, it fits perfectly. There is such a word for God.
If you had to pick one word that told all about God—the very best word to describe Him—do you know what that word would be?
Here it is, just in case you haven’t already guessed it: God is love. That is the best, biggest, and brightest thing that we could ever say about God. God is love! He cares! And He shows us His love in so many ways such as:
- Filling the sky with pure fresh air.
- Sending mighty angels to keep us safe.
- Loving us even more than our parents do, and being a Father to us even if something happens to break up our home. Designing a beautiful world for us to live in.
Now it’s sad to say it, but many people in the world don’t understand about God. They don’t like Him, don’t want to obey Him, and certainly don’t think He is love. In fact, some people blame Him for all the bad things that happen in this world; such as broken bones, sickness, tears, and death.
People who blame God have asked themselves one of the oldest questions in the world: “Whose fault is all this trouble?” And for whatever reason they choose to answer that question, “God.”
Of course, if God really is love, He can’t also be the one who started bad things. It was Satan who caused this world to be filled with pain. To understand this, of course, you have to take a little trip. You must go back in time, past when your grandparents and great-grandparents were born.
Back before Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. Back before Christopher Columbus, Martin Luther, and all the kings, queens, and princes who ever lived. Back before Jesus, Jezebel, Joshua, and Joseph. You even have to go back before Adam and Eve. And there, thousands of years ago, is just where our story begins—in a beautiful place called “Heaven.”
